MGG’s Ryan Anderson covers our work in 2019 and a great opportunity to increase pesticide-free spaces in 2020
Dear Midwest Grows Green partners, supporters and friends,
I’d like to share a wonderful offer from our sponsor Stonyfield. Before I do this, please let me catch you up on our work.
2019 has been a monumental year for Midwest Grows Green (MGG) and pesticide reduction work. More communities seek alternatives to glyphosate, the active ingredient in RoundUp, after the International Agency for the Research on Cancer classified the chemical as a probable carcinogen. Regrettably, some of these communities such as Portsmouth, NH have substituted glyphosate with more toxic chemicals such as diquat dibromide. Diquat dibromide can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chest pain, kidney failure and toxic liver damage or death if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin.
The need for MGG’s independent, science-based and skilled technical assistance to these communities seeking alternatives to glyphosate and pesticides is clear. In four years, we have helped 390 acres of parkland transition to natural lawn care, and, in the process of doing so, eliminated an estimated 1,243 lbs per year of pesticides and 118,541 lbs per year of synthetic fertilizers.
By the end of 2020, MGG’s fifth year, we aim to bring those 390 transitioned parkland acres up to 500 acres. This achievement would be a crowning success and propel us forward towards even greater goals.
Will you support us in this challenge?
Now is a great time to show your support for our efforts to bring pesticide use to an end! Stonyfield is matching every donation to MGG dollar for dollar, until the end of the year. You can make your tax-deductible donation through our donation page at bit.ly/MGGdonation or you can mail a check back to the IPM Institute at 211 S. Paterson St, Suite 380 Madison, WI 53703. If you have any problems, please contact me, Ryan Anderson, at (773) 878-8245 or randerson@ipminstitute.org . I’m, also, happy to speak more about our work and how to get involved over the phone and via email.
We sincerely thank you for assisting our invaluable mission at a time when every dollar donated has a chance to double via Stonyfield.
Warmest regards,
Ryan Anderson
