6 Reasons to Trot-Into the Hounds & Grounds Canine Cancer Awareness Event

MGG invites you to a paw-some dog agility course experience led by Hawk City K9.  Benefits abound for people and pooches alike:

Receive an introduction to dog agility from the best at Hawk City K9

Stacey Hawk and Hawk City K9 have led dog agility courses for many years. Each owner and their dog will receive one-on-one instruction from a Hawk City K9 trainer to complete an obstacle course.  This event will provide your dog a positive and stimulating exercise experience during the frigid Chicago winter.

Learn tips to protect your furry friend from synthetic lawn chemicals

MGG formed a partnership with The Pet Fund, a non-profit based in California that provides families with funds to cover critically-needed veterinary care. Since its founding in 2003, The Pet Fund’s requests for cancer treatment have increased from 20% of applications to 60%. Their funding reserve likely cannot keep pace with fulfilling these requests in the future given that The Pet Fund received 72,460 total applications in 2020 and the typical bill for cancer treatment of pets can reach $10,000.

Multiple peer-reviewed studies have measured higher canine malignant lymphoma (CML) risk in dogs exposed to lawns treated with 2,4-D. 2,4-D is the active ingredient in Scott’s Turfbuilder Weed and Feed and many other lawn herbicides.  MGG’s Ryan Anderson will present the alternative products to consider using for your lawn.

Start planning your spring lawn care rehabilitation

Never too early to start planning your lawn or garden management.  MGG’s Anderson will share spring landscaping tips and Hounds & Grounds sponsor Good Nature Organic Lawn Care  will discuss opportunities to transition to organic.

Leave with resources and treats

Goody bags! We repurposed Dark Matter Coffee burlap bags so you can take home MGG sustainable landscaping resources and samples from our event sponsors. This includes Jiminy’s dog treats made from sustainable insects and toys from PetSmart.

Recharge & Rehydrate

Our beverage sponsors include the legendary Dark Matter Coffee (which has contributed two of their sustainably-sourced brews) and the mighty Athletic Brewing Co., leading crafters of non-alcoholic brews for active people.

Support Organic Parks

MGG wants to make all public and private parks, playing fields and outdoor landscapes in the Midwest organic by 2030.  You will support our Technical Assistance Program’s organic and pesticide-free park implementation work by attending this event and/or making a tax-deductible donation to MGG at bit.ly/MGGdonation.

And much more!

Our list of sponsors and participant resources expand each week, so check for updates on MGG’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Space for Hounds & Grounds is limited, so please RSVP today at bit.ly/HoundsGrounds22. Thank you!
